Dr. Atkinson, a native of New Orleans, is a psychiatrist and, for decades, a Principal Investigator in the conduct of clinical research trials, specializing in Central Nervous System studies in both adult and paediatric patients.
Double Board Certified in both Adult,and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, she was an elected member of the American College of Psychiatrists. International clients often call upon Dr. Atkinson in the planning,design and review of clinical study protocols.
The Director of Rochester, NY’s Finger Lakes Clinical Research/ERG, she has, over a span of 25 years,conducted close to one hundred studies on behalf of national and international pharmaceutical companies.
The co-author, with Glen O. Gabbard, MD, of two recognized texts in the treatment of psychiatric disorders, Dr. Atkinson has written and contributed to numerous books and journals in her field.
She received her B.S. in Mathematics (Magna Cum Laude) from Sophie Newcomb Memorial College of Tulane University, going on to a joint Tulane/Princeton program for her M.S. in mathematics, as well.
Dr. Atkinson received her MD at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine. She completed her Residency, Fellowship and appointment as Chief Resident at the Karl Menninger School of Psychiatry.
She has held numerous teaching fellowships, both in Psychiatry and Mathematics, at Tulane, Oklahoma City University, the Karl Menninger School of Psychiatry and the University of Rochester School of Medicine.
Dr. Atkinson resides in Rochester, NY.
